Just watched last night's SNL, hosted by Betty White. It was pretty funny. The musical guest was Jay-Z, who is an all-time favorite artist of mine. But I'm not sure if I love the remake he did of a 1980's techno pop song by Alphaville.
Jason and I first heard this version when we were up in Vancouver, BC last weekend and I immediately said I wasn't a fan. I think I prefer the original. Even though the video is a little cheesy and definitely dated, the song remains classic. Your thoughts or preferences?

I have to agree. The first time I heard the original Alphaville song, I was a freshmen in HS and we're driving (my bro and I) down to Eugene (specifically U of O) from Portland to support the Ducks. I popped in a mixed tape (it's funny b/c Ji's old boyfriend Ray made it for me; we all attended the same church) and I hear this kick-ass song. I turned to my brother and said, "shit, this is going to be a one-hit-wonder for sure! What a cool song."
ReplyDeleteOk, I guess I heard it quite late b/c the song released in 1984 and I was....only 8 years old. Six years too late in predicting it's popularity...hehe.
ReplyDeleteAh, the goold old days of mixed tapes. Did you also have a perm? I got into the new wave sound late, but dug Alphaville, When in Rome and Depeche Mode.
ReplyDeleteDid I have a perm??? You need to ask Ji. She will tell you.
ReplyDeleteI'll take that as a yes...
